Questions About Our Bog Trail Walks?
Everything you need to know about exploring Lullymore Heritage Park and our guided wetland experiences for active seniors
Yes, the boardwalk is fully accessible with a level, non-slip surface and handrails throughout. We regularly guide people with walking aids, and there are benches positioned every 100-150 metres if you need to rest. The full loop is about 2.5km, but you can easily do shorter sections and turn back whenever you'd like.
Our standard walks are 1.5 to 2 hours, which gives us time to move at a comfortable pace, stop to spot wildlife, and chat about the history and ecology of the bogs. We're never rushing, and if the group wants to linger longer at one spot or head back early, we're flexible about it.
Spring and autumn are fantastic for birdwatching—you'll see visiting species alongside resident birds like curlews and lapwings. Summer's great if you want warmer weather and wildflowers, though midges can be a bit of a nuisance. Winter walks are quieter and perfect if you prefer fewer crowds.
Comfortable shoes with good grip are all you need—the boardwalk's non-slip surface means you don't need heavy boots. We design these walks specifically for active seniors, so there's no requirement to be super fit. Just let us know if you have any concerns when you book, and we'll chat through it.
Absolutely—most of our walkers are doing this for the first time, and our guides are used to explaining everything as we go. We keep groups small (8–10 people max), so there's plenty of chance to ask questions and get to know everyone. You'll feel right at home.
Waterproof jacket (Irish weather!), a small backpack with water and snacks, and a hat for sun or wind. We've got a detailed guide on our site about what to pack, and our team will send you full preparation tips when you book. Don't overthink it—we keep things simple and practical.
